A charming white Berlin bear wearing a small red crown — a classic and recognisable Berlin souvenir.
The sash and crown are characteristic details of these iconic bears. While brown versions are more commonly seen, this example is the rarer white (polar bear) type.

The bear has long been the emblem of Berlin, with its origin often linked to the similarity between the city’s name Berlin and the German word Bär meaning “bear.” After the Second World War, the Berlin Bear became a symbol of resilience and renewal, and by the 1950s–60s it had become a popular souvenir among visitors, military families and diplomats.

One of the charms of these bears is that their expressions and proportions changed over the decades — becoming gradually more kitsch and playful in later years. This one sits among the earlier examples, with a simpler and more understated expression.

The limbs move to around 90°, allowing the bear to sit or balance standing with a little adjustment.

赤い王冠をかぶった、白いベルリンベアのぬいぐるみ。

定番のベルリン土産として知られるベアで、王冠とタスキが特徴的です。ブラウンタイプもありますが、こちらは珍しいホワイト（シロクマ）のタイプ。

ベルリンのクマは中世から市章として使われており、市名「Berlin」と、ドイツ語で“クマ”を意味する「Bär（ベア）」の語感が似ていることに由来すると言われています。第二次世界大戦後には自由や復興の象徴として世界に広まり、1950〜60年代には観光客や駐留軍の家族の間で人気の定番土産となりました。

年代ごとに顔つきや雰囲気が異なるのも魅力で、時代が進むにつれキッチュで愛嬌のある表情になっていきます。こちらはその中でも比較的初期の、素朴で落ち着いた表情の子です。

手足は約90度ほど可動し、座らせたり、バランスを取って立たせることもできます。
